More from a good Grape Vine... right now it is planned that Malik will be our point guard.

How do you spell his name wrong when it's in the title...

Boy, I hope that grape vine is way incorrect. We have a shit ton of guards on this team and having a guy that SHOULD be playing the 3 or 4 at the 1 takes time away from some of our most valuable shooters and distributors.

Where did Yarbrough rank in turnovers in college hoops last year?

Basketball is getting further and further away from the traditional positions, especially in the college game. Obviously we don't have the talent to do something like that with all 5 positions but it doesn't surprise me we would take the best player and give him the ball more. Turnovers are a concern though....

I would be curious how usage fits in to all of this. Milik had WAYYY too many turnovers. No doubt. But he also had the ball in his hands more than anyone else, including our starting PG. I'd be curious how often the other top guys in turnovers had the ball.

Milik always seemed to want to be the POINT. His success in his position (along with each individual player's responsibility) are all going to be driven and determined by the team chemistry that supports the back of each player.

May be the thing to do personally ie next level (tiny forward or large guard)

PS If all you have to add to the basketball conversation, is to be the grammar police,... you may want to go the Univ Of Phoenix basketball message board. For Christ's sake !

Yes, "stretch 4's" and "point forwards" etc. etc. Lots of offenses you pass around the perimeter, etc. Not always a probing, playmaking traditional PG on the floor setting it up and handling the ball all the time.

Not likely Milik defends the point position tho. There'll be a "traditional" PG on the floor for defensive purposes. Milik's a decent "playmaker"/passer. If he tightens it up, "values the ball" as they say, he could be okay running the offense. Gotta get his mind right too, can't be hanging your head if you're running the show.

Brad Stevens says basketball players are now wings, bigs, or ball handlers (with some overlap). Traditional roles are going away.

I hadn't heard this before but 100% agree. The team I coached last year we broke down to guard-forwards with the traditional terminology but "bigs, ball handlers, and wings" is probably more fitting for what it actually was.

I wonder where a "Stretch 4" fits on that scale. Probably wing.

I love it. He's the best passer and play-maker on the team. He's 6'6 and can see over the defense. He will get fouled a lot and is a good foul shooter.

I think it makes this a better team and it also better prepares MY for the professional ranks where he will strictly be a perimeter player. Let him break down the defense and you have Key, Copeland, TB and Jefferson ready to bomb from 3 and you have Phil ready to catch dump downs for easy dunks.
