Building projects

Read on WJBC.com yesterday that Illinois State is putting into the state for the money to replace U-High & Metcalf as well as give the nursing school it's own building and $100M for a mechanical/electrical engineering building. So I'm assuming the engineering school is a go?

Re: NDSU Game (10/5/19)

Didn’t someone say ISU football was going to take us to the Big 12 one day. That would take leadership when it comes to athletics, something that Illinois State does not have. The state university of one of the most populous states in the country should not have irrelevant football. That’s on the “...

Re: In-state athletic budgets..

I think there's a core group of about 4000 that show up even in severe conditions. (50 and the threat of rain.) The rest wouldn't know the difference and like TR said will leave at halftime anyway. Good point, 1-AA football does not lend itself to having fans emotionally/financially invest in the p...

Re: In-state athletic budgets..

If you're not moving forward, you're moving backward and if you're not trying to realize your full potential you're failing. I love how all the trolls come out and talk shit about Illinois State every time the FBS issue comes up. Illinois State University should constantly be looking to move their f...

I will confess an unpopular opinion: I think MVC basketball will, overall, be pretty good this year.
Not trying to be argumentative... but pretty good compared to what?

Re: New Entrance

Gosh, how dare ISU force a tradition down our throats! Agreed, it’s pretty lame. Traditions are not a product of the marketing dept, you don’t just announce “Oh BTW, we have a new tradition starting today”. It comes off as weak and small time. Gosh, the ISU gameday experience is so boring! Agreed, ...

Re: Zenger to D-2 New Haven (CT)

What he is saying is, there are not enough donors to move a needle or press coverage to rile up the "legions" of fans. Actually no, not really. Illinois State has never had an A.D. that knew how to fundraise. Illinois State doesn’t know what kind of donor level they have out there for athletics, th...

Re: New Entrance

Not a fan of these athletic dept manufactured traditions. These types of things should evolve not be created. If the university wants to start a new tradition, how about hiring an A.D. that will move this dept forward?

Re: Zenger to D-2 New Haven (CT)

“What shouldn’t go overlooked is that I spent six years at Illinois State, an FCS program that I believe is the sweet spot of college athletics,” he said. “This niche that New Haven sits in and Illinois State sits in, I think you attract, for the student athletes and the coaches, enough attention w...

Re: NIU game thread

figured that out eventually .. we do ok fan wise, but ours can be very fair weather. If any fan base has a right to be fair weather it’s Illinois State’s. If the university isn’t going to be serious about reaching their potential in athletics, you can’t really expect folks to be that emotionally in...

Agreed, we definitely need new blood in the AD's office. It's become painfully obvious that Larry is not the man for the job.

Re: Non-conference thoughts

In some respects I don't think this is game a school like ISU can win in a state like Illinois where public universities are under a lot of pressure financially to spend wisely. ISU is probably doing ok as a university in part because it spends conservatively on athletics and it has kept up its sta...

Re: Non-conference thoughts

At any rate, the schedule is fine, but at this point I think the ISU home games crowd sizes will be mainly local. There’s decreasing reasons to drive down from Chicago to see home games. They just don’t lead to anything. Agreed, I think a lot of folks are going to stop emotionally investing in an a...

Re: Bring back the I-Block Logo

I don't see them going back to that because the "leadership" at Illinois State see the university as just another one of the regional schools rather than a statewide institution. At the rate they're going, I'd be less surprised to see them change the name to something like Central Illinois Universit...

Re: Non-conference thoughts

Have we reached a point where it’s not relevant to talk about the significance of non-con anymore? Yes.... and, quite frankly we've reached a point where the MVC conference schedule is meaningless. I think Doug Elgin took that from us by allowing the MoVal to become a low-major, one-bid, 15-seed le...

Re: Non-conference thoughts

Meh, nothing to get excited about. Disappointed that we've fallen to the point that we're doing H&Hs with schools like NKU, but that's what happens when you don't move your program/dept forward. Depressing to see the potential of this university wasted like this.
