Re: The state of the kicking game

I think there's a lot more that plays into the calculation than you present it as. Between that and Head Coaches wanting to keep their jobs ... you have 99.99% of teams doing what they're doing and limiting that risk .. especially at college and above level Some small HS coach does in Arkansas playi...

Re: Roster Redshirt Question

This sounds like something that would fit the job description for a Director of Football Operations. It's the bulk of what Alicia Mays does, right? I would guess so ... but it's a lot like dealing with salary cap space .. so I'm sure Spack leans on someone to keep track of schollie $$ coming into a...

Re: The state of the kicking game

I played some football growing up. Rarely did we go for it on fourth down. When I play Madden, I go for it probably 80% of the time. IMO if you are from your own 47 yard line to the opponent's 40, go for it. Obviously, different in-game situations could effect this, but forcing your opponents' defe...

Re: The state of the kicking game

good one to keep an eye on .. ican live with any one of these decisions, but taling all 4 together .. especially the 4th and 9 from 32 ... though if wind was in face, that's 49 yards into light wind. But we're not having any trouble on kickoff distances. On the other hand, our punter Taylor Bohlken,...

Birds 41

Da Mini-Bears 14

the line makes no sense. they gave up 24 points to a bad D-II team. the only thing that will keep this game close is lot of rain/wind

Re: Roster Redshirt Question

Spack went to new schollie model in recent years. Generally offer 75% schollies to most athletes, which allows him to spread 63 full schollies to most of the 85 rostered players. I would assume there are some studs or some players with greater financial need that might get more. BUt I also assume th...

Re: #25

Just woke up middle of night feeling wide awake ... so here I am at 3am posting. The MVFC has had a number of very high profile RB studs these last 5 years, some are istill n the NFL, some never made it to NFL. But not one left early and got drafted. Robinson is very good, but this is FCS and he is ...

Re: ISU vs CSU Game time!!

The little quarter cut was just devastating there. If Ed Reed were in that safety's spot right there, the exact same thing happens. The ONLY way to stop a guy going that fast with that much space is to run dead at him. If you hesitate and try tackle off to the side, you are dead in the water. He on...

Re: Next - Mo State Bears

Anyone know how we came out of the game from Sat injury-wise? Hopefully nothing serious if anything. Road Valley games are no cakewalk. But running and stopping the run are two things we've done well at thus far and those things always travel well. [/b][/u] very good point ... they also do well in ...

Re: #25

I don't see it happening yet. Believe it or not, he was still burning off baby fat this past year from HS and his FR year injury set back. And developing physicality needed to carry the load that Coprich carried for 2 straight seasons as a feature back. Robinson's combination of power and speed, plu...

Re: ISU vs CSU Game time!!

Watch the safety give up on that play ... he wanted nothing to do with getting trucked in open field ... watch the replay and how the safety turns into some old rickety grocery store turnstile .. spack would bench that guy for couple games for giving up like that.

Re: ISU vs CSU Game time!!

I like Haley but he does need to clean things up some. It's not like he doesn't have the skills tbough .. were benefiting from easy early schedule. I really like Edgar though ... he is a late bloomer with all the weight he's put on since HS ... he could be a stud by next year. And Schnell is no long...

Re: Here is the problem with ISU and the community

Opie11 .... welcome to Redbird Forum !! You hit the nail on the head, combine that with a few Natty's at D-II and FCS levels, and you draw and travel like Bison do. They aren't alone .. there are handful of FCS teams drawing at that level .. though none travel like Bison ... but maybe you've just ha...

Re: Next - Mo State Bears

I haven't dug in yet, but generally speaking we do well against dual-threat read-option QBs. Spack defenses (now under DC Niekamp) almost always do one thing better than anyone else ... play your position and stay in your lane. It seems like we get a few less sacks than we used to, because our guys ...

Re: He's Got Whatever IT Is!

I guess I've never quite bought into this "it" label that Spack put on him. This is a different team from a year ago .. the OL, the WR group, and the OC. Plus we probably have the best RB group in the country, outside of NDSU. It's not a question of me getting over Kolbe. I've accepted and understan...

Re: He's Got Whatever IT Is!

Not buying into the "it" thing at this point. I think the "it factor is somehow about his care free personality. Except during the game, sometimes it comes off as aloofness. He's obviously talented, but also needs to sharpen some things up in his reads and passing. CSU is not a good defensive team ....
