Re: Lyons on bribery admission scandal

Taking the cheating test score situations out, which adds a whole level of complexity to fraud, do colleges do the same thing when they recruit a player’s sibling/relative/friend with a scholarship when that person is not actually an athlete “qualified” for that scholarship? Is that a bribe? What if...

Re: Lyons on bribery admission scandal

ISU Athletics representatives have the ability to give away tickets to people. There are a variety of reasons, but they could include: 1.) Someone backs out of using tickets. 2.) Trying to get someone to a game to see the atmosphere and hopefully become a sponsor or STH. 3.) They have friends/relati...

Re: Italy in August

If there is ever a time to use extra practices and some new competition, it’s this group. They’ll have the summer to work together and get to have some great bonding time too. This is also a good recruiting tool to announce now as we look at potentially signing a JUCO or grad transfer.

Re: Out Coached and Out Smarted

I wonder why President Dietz isn't spending tens of millions of new dollars to improve Athletic Department facilities. For those of you suggesting that he doesn't give a rat's ass about Redbird sports, do you have inside information on which that conclusion is based? I might not be vain enough to s...

Re: Derrick Cook juco PG

I'd be interested in why he missed so many games. Injury or attitude related? Either way.... i know taking risks is important but we've had enough injury prone players lately. It appears the games he is missing stats, the whole team is. Ex. 10/29/18 vs Shorter, nothing is listed for him. There is a...

Barry Hinson out at SIU

Perhaps one of the few, if only coaches, to be out twice in StL. Barry Hinson “resigns” from SIU citing an arrangement he would step down if he didn’t make the tourney.

My guess like Denver Johnson got $250k after he “resigned” from ISU is that Barry will receive his $175 buyout.

Come out strong, legs die a little in 2nd half but hold on for a narrow victory. Birds 72 Drake 68 Hopefully we're able to use some of the training facilities and equipment at the Enterprise Center, where world class professional hockey athletes play. If not, I hope we were able to acquire some of ...

EVille is 11-20 and are probably among the worst teams ISU has played at all in the last 5 years. This should be an absolute ass whopping. I stand by the whole get a BIG lead early and them sit all your starters so they can keep fresh legs for the weekend. ISU- 71 Eville- 53 And have we whooped any...

Re: Coaching Candidates

One thing to say about Murray State coaches, it goes back to Ron Greene (left there in 84-85) since they had a coach not make the tourney. BTW, Greene was 119-78 in 7 seasons with 3 NIT appearances and 3 regular season titles. Greene then left to join the Valley back home at Indiana State. Steve New...

Re: Murray State Series

Baseball is one of the few Valley sports where you have a legit shot at an at-large every year. I am happy with the offensive life we have shown, as well as taking 2 of the 3 series. I wasn't happy with splitting with UCA, but at least we did split instead of losing the series. None of the teams we ...

Re: Thoughts for this week and going into 2019-2020--HCDM centric

Maybe if Chastain shot the ball more than .5 times per game, I'd be somewhat enthusiastic about his offensive upside next season. Until he starts scoring more, color me unimpressed.... Per Mike Matthews in a recent pregame, Chastain told him his role this year was not a scorer on offense. I was dis...

Re: To foul or not to foul...

It depends on a variety of factors: 1.) How much time is left? 2.) Do they have to bring the ball up full court? There have been times we sat at half court and let the other team save seconds rolling the ball up. That is why Valpo had enough time left. 3.). How good are their FT shooters? No sense f...

Make it over $40k toward athlete recovery! Goal achieved!

I look forward to seeing what the project is for next year, and it will be interesting to see if the goal jumps to $45k-$50k.

Re: Give Back

Depending on the athletics timeline, there is either $32k or $36k. They announced $32k and then a pair of $2k gifts. Not sure if those were already in the total. Regardless, at least 80% there.

Re: NIT QUESTION!

Even with Elgin on the committee, it seems that is the only way right now, under his leadership, that the MVC gets a team in the NIT is an automatic bid. The conference commissioner does not create a bid for the tournament champion to the NCAA. Thus, Loyola would have made it in last year if Scooby ...

I love it. The Kool Aid crew actually somewhat using facts for once. Caught me off guard. Good to see Larry has given someone his resume. I don’t really consider suite sales as fundraising, but I’ll give it to you. Other than Larry had really nothing to do with that. The golf practice facility. Sti...

Re: @ Indiana St, Wed, 6 pm, ESPN+

Having 8 guys is killing this team. It doesn't really matter who the 9th guy is we could put out there, it would help with looking at the bench when DM wants to replace a guy and the option being someone who isn't winded. If we get into foul trouble, ex. MY gets 2 quick fouls, that kills our depth. ...

Re: Coaching Candidates

Dan is not going anywhere and neither is Larry. Like it or not, it’s the fact. Therefore, we need to move on as all the coach bashing - which is completely well deserved - is only going to potentially scare off that prized PG I hope we are recruiting. A top PG will make Dan look like COY again. Lyo...

Re: @ Southern Illinois

With how the MVC does 1st team honors on the WBB side, both have a shot. Goods is #3 in scoring (17.6) and #5 in rebounds (7.5). Toss in #3 in shooting pct. (.543), #15 in FT pct. (.739), and #6 in blocks (1.2), and she has a lot going for her. Hittner and Rhine from Drake will battle out for Player...

Re: vs Bradley, 7 pm, ESPN2

I don't want to see this year's team in the tourney....it would be embarrassing to see what an actual good team would do to us. Isn't about time for the MVC to get rid of the Thursday night game and just throw out the two worst teams? Somebody who plays Thursday is a bad team that has zero chance o...
