I suspect there have been other good periods for BNO basketball since 1976 (Galvin and Smithson) and Jim Crews the year before, but this current group of players seem to be much better than we have had in town for a long time.

Keep hearing on WJBC that Chris is coming next year. I assume they've messed it up since he's only a junior this year.

As part of a basketball staff in the Big 12, I am fine if he graduates early

isuphloyd, for those of us who haven't seen him play, can you give us a scouting report and projection? It would be great to hear from a coach's perspective, especially an opposing coach.

If he can develop his outside shot, think Hawkins with better handles, defense, and interior post by the end of his career.

Payton lights up U-High for 32 in Intercity opener. This kid's gonna be HUGE for the Birds.

Thinking of Chris in 2019-20 joining a rotation of forwards that includes Bruninga, Chastain and our two incoming 6'-9" recruits made me wonder how many playing years we will get out of Matt Chastain. Under the principle of "5 years to play 4," he will already have had 2 years post high school after this season; he is entitled to one redshirt season, but I'm not smart enough to know if he will have 3 years or 4 years of eligibility starting next year. The ISU roster lists him as a freshman.

He'll have two years with ISU, and then 1 year with a P5 school, if he played well enough.

I hope Chris makes it to campus. I don't know anything, I just know ISU's luck with this kind of thing.

I don't know why... maybe it's because I went to BHS and ISU... but I have a good feeling about Chris. He had to know that when U of I offered, they wouldn't be the last P5 to offer.
