Great win and a truly gutty performance on overtime. But.....Does anybody else get a little concerned at the points we’re giving up? The defense is questionable and some of the Valley teams will have good three point shooters. We are a long way from last year’s defensive performance. Really impressed with Madison Williams improvement as a scoring contributor.

Great win for the team.

Yes I have D concerns. Can’t stop a dribble so will have to play a lot of zone. Vulnerable to 3 point shooters.

However I think we will continue to get better defensively and with David inside and if we keep
Playing our ass off we should be ok.

I’ll take a win like that over most of our big wins since I became a fan. How we were able to survive with the five guys on the court for the last ten minutes is indeed a testament.

So there was today, and the wild NIT game in 2012...but what were the other two times we played Ole Miss?
I can't account for all four, but one other one was at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee at an early season tourney won by host Marquette. We beat Penn State and Mississippi before losing big to Marquette; that was maybe 15 years ago.

Ahh good call! That was the 04-05 season, Moser's 2nd year. I remember that now. We beat St. John's at home that December too.

That weekend was the first time that I met Hulka and Mrs. Hulka in person. As I recall, my (now ex) wife and I were sitting down for lunch at Buck Bradleys and Hulka just pulled up a chair at our table and started eating our food.

Did anybody, HONESTLY, think they would see this in a play-by-play?

Played Ole Miss at home in a holiday tourney... late ‘70s. Ole Miss had a pair of good forwards. One named John Stroud. ISU pulled out the win.

One of the best things about this win is that we made those hustle plays all game. Hein's were really noticeable, but everyone on the team contributed. Those plays are so important.

Thoughts after witnessing a great road win tonight:

Elijah looks very athletic but committed way too many goofy turnovers. Hein threw up two crucial moment threes. One hit the top of the backboard and the other was blocked but he grabbed the board (and travelled but it wasn't called). We threw up way too many quick threes in the second half. Milik looked really special as usual.

I was shocked at the fouls they were calling on us. Gassman came up huge! Their crowd was minuscule and quiet. Very friendly fans though. A few came up to us and congratulated the Birds. Oxford is a great town. City Grocery and Rebel Barn are great restaurants.

ISU played host to a Holiday 4 team tournament a few times in the late 70's. Ronnie Jones took over the game and ISU killed Mississippi in December, 79 as I remember. I was at that game. I have 96-66 in my head. Some one look that one up.

OK, memory was not as hoped. ISU beat Mississippi 76-72 on Dec. 23, 1978. It was the next year they beat Lamar 96-64.

Back to the game....We don't win this game without having played everyone we had to play along the way this season. They generally played with confidence. That was good to see. EC has a long ways to go as his basketball legs are not there at this time. I would have liked for him to play a bit more to gain some confidence, but you cannot argue with the end result. Come on Romine and David...We need more depth!

Good road W

Everyone contributed. This schedule will help as the season goes on. Not sure anyone in the Valley has a Big 3 as good as Key, Milik and PF

Was Martin at the game? There was a timeout in OT and I didn't see him standing there in the huddle. I believe Williams and Tinsley had 4 fouls at the time.

Exciting game and gutty win for the team. Hopefully we can use this as our catalyst this year and start a streak.

BTW ... we out rebounded Ole Miss 49 to 41. We had 17 offensive rebounds. MY's ability to draws fouls, finish at the rim, and find open teammates is simply amzing and a matchup nightmate for all teams.

I love it when I see him take it to the hoop because he can drain it from the stripe!!
