Redbird Paul DeJong has saved that insane mental midget, Mike Matheny two nights in a row - hitting a double in the bottom of the eighth to score one on Thursday and two on Friday night.
The definition of insanity is doing the same thing and expecting something different to happen. Both nights, Matheny brought in Brett Cecil to pitch only to see him almost blow a 4 run lead on Thursday night and a 5 run lead on Friday night - each time violating the 8-run rule on when to pitch Cecil. He can only pitch if the Cardinals are at least 8-runs ahead or behind - otherwise, it is disaster, and has proven that on over 40 occasions this year.
DeJong on the other hand continues to play a good shortstop and has been doing a pretty good job as the #3 hitter in the line-up. If it were not for DeJong's RBI double's in the eighth inning of each game, there very well may have been chaos in the top of the ninth in each game.
