Redbirds (5-5) defeated the home team (Long Beach State 2-9).
Hannah Green exploded and while in her home state...shined.
Goods had a double double.

When I researched the non-con schedule...and looked at last year's accomplishments ...I thought the last 3 games would probably be landslide defeats. All the teams seem to be much "weaker" this year than last...while I keep seeing an improved REDBIRD team.

I switched on the LIVE STATs for the second game between Northeastern and NewMexState....where Northeastern squeaked out a nailbiter 65-64.

This team is making Barb Smith look absolutely terrible and Coach Gillespie look like a magician. Coach is taking basically all of Smiths players and having them play as a cohesive unit and just finished their non-con with a winning record for the first time since 2012.

This team isn’t gonna Win the Valley but I like the direction that the program is trending. Reminds me of when Robin was here.

With a good bit of ignorance about last year's team, I point out you have to consider two big additions this year, Saylor at the point (who's playing nearly 40 mpg) and Goods in the middle. Not that I think Smith would have been able to parlay those two into any wins, based on her track record, but I agree totally with your sentiment that Coach Gillespie is doing a great job. But, to her credit, she added a couple of key ingredients that are making a difference.

By my figuring, it took until Feb 5, game 22 last year to reach 6 wins. How's that for improvement?

I don't believe Smith would have been able to get Goods or Saylor here. Smith had several recruiting cycles and couldn't even fill in the roster; Gillespie has added some talent and got five signed in a short recruiting season. Including putting the name "Illinois State" on this Top-100 list, which hasn't happened for a while. There are no other Valley recruits rated in the top 100. Being on the list doesn't guarantee success, but it's nice to see.
