This is the site that tracks lost starters and stats from prior season heading into this season by position group. Great data comparing who has what returning across all of FBS and FCS.

According to this site, ISU has lost 2.5 starters on offense and 6.6 starters on defense.

So this site probably doesn't yet reflect LB Horton's dismissal ... so while we had 3 full time starters returning on defense (Safety Brees and DE Jason Harris, plus Horton), there are part time starters and tackles they also track .. so the site has us retaining 4.4 starters (3.4 removing Horton), and 45% of tackles (will drop to 34% removing Horton).

But we are pretty much set on offense .. a lot coming back everywhere except WR, our weakest position at WR lost 42% ... really need some people to step up there.

Some of you touched on this already .. but Colorado St was hit hard on both sides of ball:

Offensive lost 7.2 starters .. and 100% of QB stats, 59% of RB stats, 68% of WR, 57% of OL.

Defense lost 6.4 starters ... but just 38% of total tackles ... seems off, or they must have rotated into 2 deep a lot on defense.

I don't want to start a CSU pre-game thread out of respect for STX game .... ok fine, I'll pause to allow for sarcastic comments and expletives here _____________________________ there, hope you got that off your chests - back to my post .... but I was looking at the spring media guide for CSU and wow, they lost an awful lot on offense.

QB lost starter who took 100% of snaps and was 1st team all conference for Mountain West. Just one guy who took a few snaps 2 years ago, threw 4 balls .. and then no one else who has taken a college snap.

RB lost starter who had 1400+ yards is gone; next most returning was 600 yards; FB does return.

WR lost top 2 guys with 100 catches and 41 catches are both gone; guy with 100 was 1st team all conference; next guy up had 41, then also lost their 4th and 5th leading pass catchers with 20+ catches (1 was stud RB). So their top returning pass catchers have 41, then 15, then 2 guys with 12 (but they were both backups at RB and TE) .. so they have very little returning at WR.

TE lost top guy with 23 catches is gone; next up has 12 catches

OL lost 3 starters that were all-conference - spring guide claims they are deep .. but they all do.

Total that up ... man they lost an awful lot of fire power on offense. Our defense will still be figuring themselves out after only the STX tuneup. CSU (7-5) will have played 4 games already: Hawaii (3-9), Colorado (5-7), Arkansas (4-8), Florida (4-7) .. so they will be fully tuned up, though not exactly playing good FBS teams .. of late anyway.

I think our offense will catch them by surprise. Their defense lost fairw number of starters too, and they weren't very good last year on defense.

But hard to say where our defense will be in week 2 .. especially after the NAIA game in week 1. Still .. this is shaping up to be a higher scoring game is my guess at this point. Looks like one we can definitely compete with a shot to win. Just too early in season to be banking on our defense after losing 9 starters.

Should point out .. they lost to #1 Alabama by score of 41-23 ... here is descending order of the most points Alabama (13-1) gave up last year:

- 26 in loss to Auburn (10-4)
- 24 in win over Miss St (9-4)
- 23 in win over Georgia (13-2)
- 23 in win over CSU

The remaining 10 teams average 7 points against Alabama. Clemson (12-2) only scored 3 points against Alabama.

So that WAS one hell of an offense CSU had a year ago.

Agree they may be tuned up, but they might also be injured as well. Being young and playing SEC teams b2b may mean guys are banged up and looking for a week off playing an FCS team. Could be a perfect storm for our offense to catch them flat footed.

I just want us to acquit ourselves well. That NAU game was really hard to watch.
