Ok am a basketball guy BUT we played the best team in the nation at their place. Could have gotten our asses handed to us but we never quit. D got better as game went along and we did out score them the second half. I thought it was REAL classy of NDSU to take a knee at the end. If we
Treat this as a learning experience and win next week I will feel pretty good about today. We also proved we can run on anyone.

I think they are just out-executing us in trenches, but it is not in their run game .. it is all Stick.
???disagree...ndsu has many stick keepers for gains that were by choice vs stick scrambling due to pressure to survive that subsequently resulted in gains

ISU needs to focus this half and play their game as so far they have been off balance due to penalties and big ndsu plays
You keep wanting to disagree with me .. fine.

Stick has just 5 carries for 43 yards, one of which he left pocket. Their RBs have 15 carries for 40 yards .. so I'd say we are stopping their primary run effort, but we are not accounting for their QB.
tend not to disagree with your overall logic but I do sometimes disagree with your tendency of only using certain plays/facts/stats to make a point. So yes if you want to exclude Sticks designed running or option running plays then yes ISU controlled NDSU’s running game in the first half. But why exclude those plays?

How can a game seem both closer and more lopsided than the final score was? We got beat in all 3 phases, Brady struggled mightily at times and shined at a couple others. Defense got beat deep, a big problem of years past. Let’s not even talk about special teams kicking and coverage. About my only bright spot was that James Robinson busted a couple good runs.

Moral of this game: Nobody is in NDSUs league at the moment, especially not us. I keep comparing NDSU to the Bulls of the 90s. Why would you, as a high schooler, if offered by NDSU, go somewhere else without an extremely good reason? “Hey, come win nattys with the Bison! Look at Carson Wentz and the rest of our NFL Bison.” NDSU is way ahead of everyone in recruiting, attendance and overall program strength and they’re going to stay that way.

I don't believe in morale victories.Today sucked. But there are certain things that matter. Seniors. Football is a senior game. Always has been - always will be. There are 6 seniors on the NDSU starting front 7. 24 on the team. We have 11 seniors total on our roster. I think it showed throughout the game. And it's mostly little things like a redshirt freshman receiver not coming back to the ball on a curl.. Or a redshirt freshman DE letting a tackle get under his pads and getting down blocked into Minnesota. Or a sophomore running out of his lane on KO. Or yes, a QB who's really a sophomore forcing a pass he should have thrown away.

This is a young team. They got better today. They went up to Fargo and played the best team in the country tough. Hell they won the second half. It's going to get better. Making the playoffs would be huge. Get in playoffs this year. Win the damn thing next year. That's all I got.

NDSU is was the better team today without any doubt. Still, the Birds played hard to the end of the game and they are a very young team. I think this team has a bright future. There are still games to play this year of course and a playoff birth is still out there for the Birds to take. On to next week.

I wouldn't even give up on this year .. we have a lot of RS FR and SO on our 1st and 2nd string. We got schooled 1st half and hung tough 2nd half. Still some question marks and areas needing some work, but we have a lot to work with.

Today sucks, because we just aren't as far as along as we hoped. Still have some hopes for playoffs this year and especially next year .. roster is just as loaded as it was yesterday.

We certainly could have played better. I will say, I think NDSU is a top 20 FBS team. Season in and season out. They are just a tremendous football program -- for any level.

As good as Davis looked earlier in the season, I dunno at this point. He seems very tentative. I think it might have been a different game had we not turned the ball over on the pass int late in the second quarter. We get points, hold them at the end of the 2nd quarter, and we get the ball to begin the second half and get more points and the game looks a lot different. That was a terrible decision on the pass by Davis.

I thought we did a good job as the second half wore on.

QB Stick is killing us .. their RBs have 15 carries for 40 yards, so they are putting the game in Sticks hands and feet .. 188 yards passing and 43 yards rushing.
He is killing us indeed but it all starts in the trenches. ISU losing the battle of the trenches big time
This is a perfect summary of the game " ISU losing the battle of the trenches big time".

Because we're putting together a team that will beat them.

I'd like it if we could schedule a FBS game and a game against the #1 ranked FCS team every year, especially if that team is also the defending National Champion. Of course the FCS game would most likely be the tougher game.

With that as the backdrop the game at NDSU had a low probability of victory from the get go. I would agree that we lost the battle of the trenches but I'd leave off the big-time. They say football is a game of inches but it's also a game of mere seconds. NDSU QB Stick had an extra second or two to throw and it made all the difference on a couple of long passes early in the game. Meanwhile Davis didn't have a lot of pass attempts where he wasn't on the run or under pressure. Stick to Shepherd was the difference early in the game but if Shepherd was confinded to receiving we might have kept it closer. Instead our punt coverage didn't cover. In hindsight we would have been better off doing angled punts out of bounds rather than let #20 Shepherd run the field on a couple of punt returns.

On defense I thought Willie Edwards had an outstanding game for us as did Ridgeway. Isubu is right about the Bison being a veteran team and a lot of that experience is in the middle of their offensive line. Ridgeway was battered by some really physical O-Line veterans but he took the best the best could give him and he won some battles. On offense the usual suspects (Robinson and Schnell) were match up problems for the green and yella.

Let's turn out for this team on Saturday against SDSU. They just played in a big game and they need to play in another one.

Admittedly, I did not see much of this game. I was at a wedding. Why anyone would get married in the fall on a Saturday is beyond me......

Anyway, from what I did see, between the ceremony and reception (it was the drive where Brady threw an INT in the redzone), we were just out matched. Brady was doing a lot of scrambling. The last play I saw was Brady's INT. How the Bizon player that drove him into the ground and then slammed him again, when Brady wasnt near the play, didn't get tossed from the game is crazy to me. I need to go watch it again to make sure that's what happened but in the moment, I was livid. It was a clear cheap shot at our QB. I know the Bizon player got a personal foul, but I think more definitely could have been called.

I didn't think the birds had a chance and to only lose by a pair of scores is promising with our youth.

The latest playoff projections say we are in as a 7 seed. If we can win out, we'll be seeded. One more loss and we're in the first round. We need wins, but I'd be okay with a split against SDSU and UNI. Should be able to take care of YSU and INST.

not suggesting those yards don't count. My only point is their entire run game depended on QB read option, and we shut down their RBs for most part. And I know Bruce Anderson was out, but a year ago. Lance Dunn was top guy before he got hurt, and Anderson became top guy as a result. Plus they have an established 3rd RB who has lit some teams up in a limited role. So my only point is simply this , that somehow, despite getting mostly beat in trenches, we proved we can run with the best run offense & defense in country. And that they had to rely on their QB read-option to get close that gap.

So I'm not discounting Stick's run yards, just giving our guys some well deserved credit .. contrary to many posters, we did not get beat in every phase of game. Lot of credit goes to Robinson, no doubt, but our OL did help some. By the way, down 3 TDs, we had to run less in Q4 or Robinson could have likely gotten another 25 or 30 yards. If I get really bored, I'll look up last time a team's RBs out-rushed Bison RBs .. list will be very short ..
maybe JMU, or possibly UNI or SDSU at some point in prior years.

Yup. Just watched it and confirmed my thought. Brady was nowhere near the play. Got drove into the ground by #69 and then 69# goes full body weight on him again. 69 walks off with a smirk on his face. Dirty.

How he wasn't ejected from game was a complete farce. If on of our guys had done that to Stick ... there would have been holy hell to pay. Spack should send that to MVFC for review and consider suspending him for a game.
