can we not keep a single thread even remotely on topic?
No, not if the pissers and moaners can find a way to rip ISU, Lyons, Elgin, the MVC, the people who don't piss and moan, etc. etc. in the thread.

Re: Two Deep Offense

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, guys. I was looking at the two deep and decided it was time for another stupid question. I hope others get something out of this. What's the difference between the Jack and a DE? I see our two deep lists the defensive line as DE - NG - DT - Jack. Now, I like jargon...

Re: Spring Practice is Here, Spack Comments

Okay, moving right along, the first spring update is already on the website after last night's practice. Spack is happy about some of the position groups we're most worried about. Been some shifting around too. https://goredbirds.com/news/2019/3/17/football-spring-camp-report-1-debut-under-the-light...

Spring Practice is Here, Spack Comments

Well, just looking at the board this morning and I didn't think I'd be the first one to post about today's Pantagraph article about spring practice opening. Interesting to see what Spack has to say. https://www.pantagraph.com/sports/college/illinois-state/spack-likes-isu-s-vibe-depth-as-spring-drill...

Good for Marshuan!! In other news, Galen Scott has rebounded (the article indicates this was not his first job after getting the hook at VA Tech.) https://meangreensports.com/news/2019/3/14/football-scott-joins-mean-green-as-linebackers-coach.aspx?path=football Galen Scott has been named the Mean Gr...

Re: Muller seeks to restore 'toughness, effort'

When Dan was hired I expected we would have many players that reminded me of Dan. Fundamentally sound High basketball IQ Defense focused. In the 7 years I have seen two players that remind me of that. Tony Wills and now Matt Chastain. While we can’t have nothing but those types of players, we need ...

Great news. This has been a nice turnaround, credit to Coach G and staff, but also and largely to the team for sticking it out and buying in and playing together! And it's not over yet for this year!

okay, my head is spinning here . . . . is Hatfield still here or did he leave too? Back to QB for him?

Broadnax pulled the trigger too early. I get why these guys get itchy, but you know, hang in there, stay with it, your time will come!! Maybe . . . ;)

Re: Coaching Candidates

King Rice and Dan Monson I think would consider us and be interesting selections though. Monson’s last 3 years at Long Beach State: 15-19 15-18 11-18 King Rice’s last 2 years at Monmouth: 11-20 10-16 Neither coach is trending up. They both seem closer to getting fired than getting hired at a new sc...

Re: Thoughts for this week and going into 2019-2020--HCDM centric

Very good Cooksey. I tend to stay off the hoops board since it seems to get a little wild, but just want to weigh in on this, and agree with your thoughts. If I had to pick one single thing about HCDM and current state of affairs that bugs me, it is this deal that he doesn't seem to recruit very man...

This is old news, so sorry if it has already been posted, but Denver Johnson stepped down as HC at Missouri Southern State. Was 3-33 in four seasons. Yikes. https://www.joplinglobe.com/sports/denver-johnson-resigns-as-mssu-football-coach/article_646d7eb2-bb43-11e8-8bd9-2b42c07b41a0.html Got it's ow...

Re: Kindred discusses Donewald era

Whether you were for or against Donewald, or don’t even know his name, there is an inescapable truth: Three decades later, ISU is still chasing his level of success. Sums it up really well. Damn, Rico we agree on something! 🙀. No question Donewald was a great coach in MOST ways. Prickly you bet! Bu...

So. Went to the Panty web site. Looking for ISU game story on our beloved opponent. Only the biggest rivalry in ISU history, so not a big deal I suppose. Nothing. Nada. Zip. Zorro'd. Did I miss something? Is it in the paper edition? Jim? Randy? Mr. Flick'ers? Hulka? Anybody? They're all good qualit...

Re: At Missouri State

I don't know if I'd say I'm "following" women's hoops now, but I'm at least "paying attention". So, take this with a grain of salt, BUT . . . . This seems like sort of a "signature" win - a turning of the corner on the "old bad days" and a signal that better days are coming, or really are here alrea...

Red Panda Sighting

On a lighter note, Red Panda was the half-time show at the Michigan St. - Wisconsin game last night in Madison. Always unbelievable.

Well, I'm totally refreshed from the RB U. kool aid, no argument from me there, altho for the most part (except for J Rob) we haven't seen any on field performance, BUT . . . there ain't gonna be no RB U. w/o some OL U., so we better get that straightened out ASAP. The transfer from UIUC didn't real...

We better get this lead up by at least 5 pretty quick. I know many don't trust our finishes, but I don't trust a game with Pollard and Jansen.
:text-+1:

Was just thinking the same. We'll get no edge on any close ones, that's for sure.

A very nice article on Yaklich and Dean Oliver from this morning's Madison paper, who will be facing each other this morning in UW vs. Mich (geez, better get to the TV, they're already starting). Nice quotes from Coach Dan and good stuff on both assistants. https://madison.com/wsj/sports/college/bas...

Re: Roster changes

This has been as bad an offseason as Spack has had. It's easy to act like the fox with sour grapes....but we lost some good, talented players, including a potential star in Willie Edwards. Broadnax was also about as athletic and talented an athlete as we've had on the roster in the past 5 or 6 year...

Re: BETTER

Well, I've always wished for getting the Illinois boys, but I'm gonna set that aside for now, this looks like a pretty impressive class. Wonder if our new coaching staff has anything to do with the more national recruiting - more ties farther away from home??
