Re: NBA Summer League 2018

I doubt money is the issue, it's just whether they want to give a guy like DAP some PT, or use it on draft choices, other "key" acquisitions, etc. I'm pretty cynical about the NBA. But he's played his way into a shot, that's for sure. Seems like those 2-way contracts have given guys more chances tha...

Re: NBA Summer League 2018

DAP is going to make the Nuggets It would be nice, but the NBA can be cruel. Nuggets just signed Isaiah Thomas. That can't help DAP's cause. Article from Denver Post about DAP's chances: https://www.denverpost.com/2018/07/12/devaughn-akoon-purcell-breakout-denver-nuggets-summer-league/ Akoon-Purcel...

Re: Milik

Basketball is getting further and further away from the traditional positions, especially in the college game. Obviously we don't have the talent to do something like that with all 5 positions but it doesn't surprise me we would take the best player and give him the ball more. Turnovers are a conce...

Re: WIU Enrollment Woes

This is football related, not enrollment, but I'll stick it here. More "churn" in WIU coaching staff - did this guy not even coach one game with the Turkeynecks? Says he coached at Delaware in 2017 and now is moving on already to Liberty? From footballscoop.com : Liberty: Western Illinois (FCS) wide...

Okay, I'm getting restless. Isn't it time for at least an article from Reinhardt or someone telling us who the candidates are?? Please?? :)

Re: WOAH!

except budgets are all relative to each sport .. football has way more coaches, schollies, and other expenses. My only point is .. I accept that we have budget constraints and that football is probably teetering into red last (scheduling issues above) and this year (speculating on coaches hired), a...

Re: WOAH!

Don't get me wrong, I expressed skepticism that this was a "big time get", but I totally agree that he didn't just show up at the door, and I'm glad to have him. Spack and Beathard surely talked to him and welcomed him, and his background 3+ years ago was pretty damn good, so who knows if he can fin...

Re: WOAH!

Really folks, God bless the kid, but come on, he only played in 2 games in 3 years at Memphis, completed no passes. Stuff happens, I grant you that, there may be something to explain it all. But, a "big time get"??? Kolbe isn't THAT bad. He may get challenged, hopefully he will get pushed, but I'm n...

Re: Arch Madness Officials

I'm fine with Higgins, don't like Pollard. A couple other of our MVC regulars I can do without (Tom O'Neil has seen better days, Paul Janssen, Joe Derosa). I think "outside" officials isn't a bad idea if you can pull it off, but not just "any old refs", but some decent ones. Either way, there'd be l...

Re: Durkac Fired

As I sat watching the Big 10+ baseball tournament championship, I was looking at the Illinois and Purdue and Minnesota rosters to see if any of their assistants might be good candidates for our head job, wondering if Durkac might be let go. I don't know enough one way or the other, I know some of yo...

Re: Offseason Wish List

I really don't want Horton to go. It's valuable space and when you give space away you rarely get it back. Just needs to be better taken care of. . I've been in many amazing new practice facilities. I can't think of a single school that then tore down an existing Fieldhouse. And the bleachers on th...

Re: Game Times Announced

Noon's not great, especially if you're coming like, say, from Madison, so you'd have to leave by maybe 7am to start your tailgate by 10, only to shut down, as Birdswin points out, an hour and a half later. Just my personal beef!! :x Just come down the night before, I guess! :D At least we're not in ...

This could be big. 3-star DE transfer. https://twitter.com/RomeoMcKnight23/status/996436771742343168?s=19 He announced his transfer on Sunday and committed to ISU three days later. Good work by the coaches. Didn't we recently have a transfer from Iowa? Reggie Spearman, maybe? Yep, research seconds ...

Re: Season so far

1-2 on the weekend vs Bradley. It puts us at 18-26 and 5-10 in the MVC. If we were to sweep Valpo and Evansville, we would head into the MVC tournament with a record above .500. Anything less than that and we have a losing conference record. Barring sweeps and a good run in the tourney, we will be ...

Re: SIU fires AD; hires Jerry Kill

Heard a radio interview with Kill on Minneapolis radio last night, and it's funny, he really didn't sound all that "gung ho" about doing this. Was sort of like, well, I didn't seek this position, they said they needed me to help them out, so I said I'd do it for the short run, we'll see how it goes,...

Re: Season so far

I was giving some credit for moving in a positive direction, but I agree, some troubling stuff. They're not that far away. Losses to IWU, EIU (16-26), SIU-E (13-29), you get those three and the record is 17-21, closer to .500. They've lost 5 one-run games. You get a couple of those, you're at .500....

Bengals took a CB in the 7th round, from W.Michigan. Davontae's versatility may come in handy.
