Wisconsin HS All Star Game

The Wisconsin Football Coaches Association All Star football games (large, small and 8-man) are this weekend in Oshkosh. Two of our incoming freshman are on the roster. Jack Kelly, from Stevens Point, is listed as a D lineman for the large school North squad. Matt Wedig from Beloit Memorial is liste...

Re: Front Page News

I'm really not for conference expansion .. I just don't like how it messes up scheduling and leads to inequities. Example with Colonial who has 12 teams .. their conference champ last year was Maine .. they went 7-1, but also benefited considerably from scheduling by not having to play JMU, Stoney ...

Re: 2019 MVC in the NBA Summer League

Plee would do great with Memphis. He is that bulldog defender similar to Mike Connolly. He definitely fits the culture. I thought he would get a good look and a shot, especially with the way he's played, but now the Grizzlies have signed Tyus Jones, after drafting Ja Morant.and rrading for De'Antho...

Re: 2019 NCAA Baseball Tournament

Great season, enjoyed watching several games online. Nice to see this team have some success, finally. Congratulations to Coach Holm and staff, a job well done. I always wonder when a change is made whether the old coach could have done the same had he (or she) been allowed to stay - you know, the t...

Re: Street and Smith's (May!? '19)

I personally am not very interested in the polls or rankings. Lots of fans enjoy talking about them and complaining about where their team is ranked or feeling good about their team is ranked. Something to talk about during the off season and enjoy if it is your thing. It will all be taken care of ...

Re: 2019 Interest - based on tweets and follows

Pull for the Badgers in the Hauser brothers transfer derby. I know Wisconsin was on him earlier then dropped out. You think they are still interested? Just a weird recruitment cycle for Reeves right now. I think they could panic and go back to Reeves if they don’t land the brothers. I believe they ...

Re: "Indoor Facility ... #1 priority" ... AD Larry Lyons

Great points in this thread, right now I see ISU being a tweener school and hard to compare us to another Midwest university. Clearly we are better than the Illinois directional schools, but not to the level in national perception as Kansas St and Oklahoma St, which I feel is a shame and blame Spri...

I'm a little surprised Hoener never landed a HC job, I guess, altho he's clearly had staying power in the profession. No question Berry was the right guy, that's for sure.

Ancient History

Was cleaning out the "archives" a couple weeks ago, and tossed out many many old Pantagraph stories and columns from Lefty and even Jim Barnhardt. But one interesting one included speculation on the new FB coach back in 1995 - the final three candidates were FBS assistants Pete Hoener from TCU, Todd...

Re: 2019 Home Game Times Announced

Agree noon start in early October makes no sense unless it was for a TV slot. They are not just unnecessarily squeezing tail gate window. Do they not realize some people have to drive 2+ hours from the major metro Chicago area to get to the games as is. There better be a concrete reason for this st...

Re: New signee

You have to be impressed with this staff's ability to dig up talent. They go HS, they go JC, they get a transfer now. Pretty decent. Looks to me like the JC lady's coach got an assistants job at Mo. State, so you also have to give some credit to Coach G for being able to bring Moore in here when one...

Re: Assistant coach?

Very satisfied with this hire. I'm never sure how much the connections of the HC to a "recruiting territory" matter - as opposed to the assistants - but UND did very well in the Twin Cities. Obviously lots of "non-athletic" kids from Minnesota go to UND, the states have tuition reciprocity, etc., bu...

Seems like she missed some time in her senior year of HS due to knee injury too. Hope it's not the same one, not that having one on each is any damn good either. Good luck to her in recovery!

I'm guessing I'm not the only one that would need to look this up so here is the google search result ;) "For example, if there are one running back and two tight ends on the field, the grouping is called 12 personnel. If there are two running backs and one tight end, the grouping is referred to as...

Re: D1 Transfers of Interest

So is Gilyard a PG or not? You guys seem to disagree on it. Athlon and Street and Smith's preview magazines seem to consider him a PG, but he clearly likes to shoot. Freshman year he averaged nearly 4 assists per game, a little better than last year. This season it appeared like he played with anot...

Re: Offensive backfield depth

Well, I don't disagree that the failure to bring a 4-5 year QB from freshman class to a successful career is a weakness in Spack's program, but you also have to give him some credit for "recruiting" Roberson and Davis (anyone else I'm forgetting?) - I mean, they didn't just show up on the curb. Som...

Re: College Basketball Coaching Carousel

I'm really surprised Moser got an offer from SJU. I was going to post how there was no way he'd be a serious candidate, and didn't get around to posting it, so what do I know? Will confess now. Moser has been a head coach 15 years, including UALR, ISU and LU. He's been to the postseason 3 times in t...

Re: Derrick Cook juco PG

I'm all for a diamond in the rough, but I don't see where this guy is a PG. Isn't he gonna be in the Copeland mode as a true wing that Muller's gonna try to "make" into a PG? We've heard that song before . . . .

Re: Nice Rebound

Hard to say if Coach Durkac and the former staff could have taken this group to their current record if they'd been kept on, but hard to argue with success. Coach Holm is earning his keep so far!!
