Re: Spring Practice is Here, Spack Comments

I think almost all, if not all, football coaches are up beat in the spring, Coach Spack being no different in that respect. Why would they not be upbeat at this time of year? I sincerely hope his optimism turns out to be spot on next fall and the receiving corps is solid. Too bad they cant stream th...

Re: Jack Kelly MISSING

That age of transitioning from kid to young adult is fraught with all kinds of pressures. Leaving home and heading off to college, having real responsibilities, looking at careers and such things. It can be really exciting but it can also be overwhelming. Toss in the pressure of being a college athl...

Re: Two Deep Offense

The key for next year is to get the ball to James Robinson 25+ times a game every single game. That guy is your playmaker and a potential NFL starter. Davis spent a ton of time throwing 18 yard out routs and having safeties jump those toward the end of the season. You gotta pull those safeties down...

Re: Two Deep Offense

Davis is 100% your QB for the next 2 years. The guy is incredibly talented. That said, I STILL wish we were more read option like we were back in 2012-2014. That style just flat out works better at this level than pro-style offense. But, the rosters you have here are STRONG. Robinson is just a mons...

Re: OT: Former Players

While just surfing around the websites for the new Alliance of American Football (the new spring league starting in 2019) I found two former Redbirds on initial rosters. Cameron Lee is listed on the roster for the Arizona HotShots (Yep, that is their real nickname...I did not make it up!). Marshaun...

My top 5 FCS choices for home and home:

1. Montana
2. JMU
3. Chattanooga
4. Liberty
5. Furman
Isn't Liberty playing FBS in 2019? I know they are moving to FBS and thought the target season was 2019.

Re: Roster changes

Sorry about the thread hijack but it's January and I just like football talk. No complaint from me Timmy! 1985 was one of the most fun times I can remember. I am happy to discuss that team any time. They were awesome on the field but just so much fun off of it. I cant remember having so much fun fo...

Re: Roster changes

Harris is completely understandable from a football perspective. He is a 4-3 end and was out of position as a 3-4 OLB or jack. Tidbit on his dad. Al was a good NFL DE/LB with the Bears. He would have been a starter on the Super Bowl team. He and Todd Bell held out. Mike Hartenstein and Dave Duerson...

Re: NIU Coach Leaves

I thought I would post a link to a story about the Northwestern $260 million athletic facility. The football practice facility on the lake looks pretty nice! These are the "haves". Beautiful facility. The money in the Power 5 is really staggering. I don't think Fitzgerald is leaving anyway, he has a...

Re: NIU Coach Leaves

Double his salary. I thought he made between $400k-$450k here. However, even if we bumped his pay to $500k, we still couldn’t pay him close to NIU. Why would ISU bump his salary? As of recent it is not like Spack has been setting the world on fire...basically 3 straight years of 500 winning percent...

Re: Open Dates Posted

Can we assume that EIU H&H is a given? So, FBS, EIU, and open dates in '20, '21, and '22, with 2 open dates in '22. I count 12 Saturdays between Labor Day weekend and the week before Thanksgiving, so 12 games that season? I would love to see us start scheduling H&Hs with the best programs in FCS. I...

Updated Pantagraph article said Buffalomeat was dismissed for conduct detrimental to the team. Looks like Broadnax was dismissed as well.
Disappointing all the way around.

Re: FCS coaching changes ... couple big ones

Hey BisonLaw .. welcome to Redbird Nation ...thanks for chiming in !! First of all, good luck this weekend ... EWU will need a near perfect game to beat you guys, but I don't see it happening unless they play very well and some fluke things happen. Otherwise, I see NDSU by 2+ TDs. As you can see ab...

Happy New Year!

Another year and another season in the books. Spring ball is around the corner now and new recruits and transfers heading to Hancock. Nobody knows what 2019 holds for Redbird Football. I thought the 2018 Birds would do better than they did. Are the Redbirds solid at QB? How will the O-line play? Som...

Re: FCS coaching changes ... couple big ones

But I think given all of this turnover, NDSU does look at more of a rebuild than reload for next season .. new coaches, 16 new starters, plus a few more from their 2 deep ... all need to be replaced. This is a lot .. even for NDSU. The NDSU run has been absolutely incredible. They recruit well and ...

Re: RIP Ron Bell

I recall watching Bell play at Hancock back in the early 70's. He was an impressive back at that time. All the players were much smaller then but I remember when he was drafted by the Steelers. Not many ISU players got looks from the NFL back then. RIP Mr. Bell.

Re: FCS coaching changes ... couple big ones

The question now is, who replaces Kleiman? As this article speculates it will almost certainly be someone with direct links to the program. Probably same old business as usual but everything ends at some point. Not really even a ripple in the force with Kleiman was promoted. What happens this time?...

Re: Brady Davis

I like Brad's long hair. Maybe you are jealous. He has a wife and I bet she likes it. Hey, if Mrs Davis likes the flowing locks it is A-okay with me! I have no problem criticizing the players, coaches or the administration...I do not have the intestinal fortitude to take on an angry wife! ;)
