Re: Offensive backfield depth

But if you asked me what I was concerned about for the 2019 season it would be QB play, offensive productivity, receivers who can stretch the field and catch in traffic and the kicking game. Those are the areas the 2018 Redbirds struggled at times. This comment really resonated with me, Virginia. S...

Re: Offensive backfield depth

Well, I don't disagree that the failure to bring a 4-5 year QB from freshman class to a successful career is a weakness in Spack's program, but you also have to give him some credit for "recruiting" Roberson and Davis (anyone else I'm forgetting?) - I mean, they didn't just show up on the curb. Som...

Re: Offensive backfield depth

True some were recruited as athletes with coaches thinking about position change ,, but I think the track record above speaks for itself and as stlrb said ... we have been forced to look to transfers more often than our home grown guys. Fact remains, not a single home grown guy has ever started as ...

Re: Offensive backfield depth

Except that some of these "QBs" were recruited as athletes. They were given a chance to make it as a QB, before realizing they'd play some other position. I remember Todd Berry saying that he recruited lots of high school QBs knowing that they weren't suited for the position in college. By being th...

Re: Open Dates Posted

This looks like a scheduling win to me. We'll have some good company in schools scheduling Dixie State: BYU, Colo St, Montana, SDSU, etc. That's not a bad group to be a part of. But then you look at the deals...I think ours is the best. A 1 time buy game for $85K. Other schools were paying more, so...

Re: Open Dates Posted

I'm not sure if I've seen this posted elsewhere on the board, but it looks like we'll be seeing one of the newest FCS teams in the country playing the Redbirds at Hancock in 2020. https://fbschedules.com/dixie-state-byu-colorado-state-plus-eight-more-future-schedules/ Dixie State University, locate...

Re: Offensive backfield depth

We had a lot of departures in the offensive backfield so a big question this spring involves depth at RB and QB. Markel Smith's exit in particular left a big void behind Robinson. Jeff Proctor has been a pleasant surprise and he appears capable of filling those shoes. We knew he was fast but I was ...

Re: "Indoor Facility ... #1 priority" ... AD Larry Lyons

Here is Hancock stadium that most us wouldn't mind seeing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BrxHGO-20Ig https://usajaguars.com/galleries/?gallery=1870 Not only is that a pretty impressive stadium but the video to me is a great example of what is missing from Redbird Football. What is missing to me i...

Re: "Indoor Facility ... #1 priority" ... AD Larry Lyons

Well...the bubble burst. https://twitter.com/pg_reinhardt/status/1113200223877312512?s=21 This doesn’t sound promising. Also, someone at ISU must be reading the board to have this come out today after this thread. Well, the AD says a bubble is NOT a consideration. It appears that a brick and motor ...

I stumbled across this article about Colton Underwood. Former Redbird player but this is a rather embarrassing interview. Trying to extend his 15 minutes of fame?

Re: Spencer Schnell - nice pro day results

I felt that Schnell's talents were somewhat wasted over the past couple seasons with the offensive inconsistency but still ended up 1st team all conference. I hope he gets the opportunity with an NFL team and does well. He was an exciting player to watch on Saturdays.

Re: OT: Former Players

Yeesh, they suspended play and to add insult to injury ... apparently didn't even cover the players expenses to get home from last game. If true, how pathetic to treat people like that. "Players are being forced to pay for their own travel back home, a source told ESPN, confirming an SI.com report....

Re: "Indoor Facility ... #1 priority" ... AD Larry Lyons

Virginia .. generally agree but do feel we have been right on the cusp of being very good the past 4 seasons ... main issue has been pass game and QB consistency. Otherwise we have had enough of the other pieces to be very good at times. Every year we see the top of 10 potential is right there. But...

Re: "Indoor Facility ... #1 priority" ... AD Larry Lyons

CU may have touched on why the Athletic Dept could reach the 34 million goal without having the money to put up an indoor practice facility. The money received so far could have been earmarked by donors for other purposes. The indoor facility may have been the dept. #1 priority at one time but surp...

Quick summary of Illinois FCS Football Spring Drills

I saw this brief summary article by Dan Verdun on the Prarie State Pigskin blog. I had not realized that last year was the first year since 2011 that none of the Illinois FCS programs qualified for the playoffs. Not a good year all around for Illinois FCS Football but you could make a good argument ...

Re: Getting Hurt in Recruiting

I think their story changed because football attendance is down. I am pretty sure AD Lyons inferred the 150m campaign would also be used for indoor facility at some point. I found an old promo video but the link was removed. I would like to think that a change in focus would not be based on footbal...
