Re: NIU Coach Leaves

I recollect Spack having turned down multiple MAC head coaching jobs before taking the job here, but I could be remembering that wrongly. At the time I thought it reflected how difficult he thought it would be to succeed in the MAC. Temple hasn't sucked as badly as they did before they got kicked ou...

Re: New WR Coach

4th, why the comments about Anderson phoning it in? I don't recall any scuttlebutt like that during the season, but my memory ain't what it used to be.

Re: Why not St. Louis as the location of the FCS National Championship game??

I guess I'll take this opportunity to remind everyone that St Louis could be the front runner for MLS' next franchise. A 22K seat stadium next to Union Station is planned. https://www.stltoday.com/sports/soccer/st-louis-hailed-as-great-soccer-city-but-mls-vote/article_c2b23429-904a-5854-93a3-69c1f57...

Re: Roster changes

I don't think we've heard the back story with Markel Smith. He was in the Spack doghouse by years end, that's for sure. There was a pretty consistent work split between him and Robinson early in the season. Wouldn't shock me to hear Smith wanted to adjust that. Does anyone know why things went sout...

Re: 2018 recap, 2019 needs ...

What happened to Jason Harris? I was expecting a big year from him. Was he hurt, or just lost in the shuffle in moving to LB? Why is in not at DE? I would love to see him and McKnight as bookend rushers. Is he the spark the DL is missing? According to goredbirds, he played in all 11 games getting 2...

Re: Did you know?

That's really cool. Thanks for pointing this out. I do seem to recall that in the very early days of football most schools played club teams from their area.

Re: Open Dates Posted

Can we assume that EIU H&H is a given? So, FBS, EIU, and open dates in '20, '21, and '22, with 2 open dates in '22. I count 12 Saturdays between Labor Day weekend and the week before Thanksgiving, so 12 games that season? I would love to see us start scheduling H&Hs with the best programs in FCS. In...

Re: NIU fans not happy about playing us

I think that the NIU fans that have an issue with the game are chafing at their only home non-con and one of three home weekend games being against FCS. It's more about the MAC practice of scheduling weeknight games and their AD scheduling 3 P5 away games, than it is not being happy about playing us...

Re: 2018 recap, 2019 needs ...

I still believe in Beathard, and I have zero doubt we were better off than we would have been with Dicken ... but he obviously did not have the impact I touted. Excuses sound weak .. but wondering if he lost some focus during season with his wife getting cancer again. She was getting treatment in s...

Re: Yesteryear

So awesome. Man I miss the days when we would draw full, energetic, LOUD AS F*** crowds, and of course actually win big games. I second that. I think back then, the crowd felt like it was their responsibility to make it difficult for the opponent. It was our responsibility to help the team win. At ...

Re: 2018 recap, 2019 needs ...

... our offense was dead last in 3rd down conversions, while NDSU offense was first in 3rd down conversions ... I knew we were not good in this regard, but dead last? Gotta say, this is not what I was expecting from Beathard. Trying to think of a consistent theme, but can't. We didn't convert in sh...

Re: 2018 recap, 2019 needs ...

When I think back on 2018 its dominated by the abrupt change from a steady, smart team thru 5 games, to a group that suddenly was making critical momentum-changing mistakes. Very un-Spack like. We had that surprising loss to Missouri St, but we were 4-1, in the top 10, and coming off a royal arse-wh...

Re: Signing Date 12/19

Fehrmann is from Brookfield WI. Looks like Fehrmann originally chose New Mexico over buffalo, Ball State , North Dakota and ISU Played DE in a 3-4 in high school. New Mexico State had him at LB so I think he'll play edge/joker LB for ISU. Will have 4 years eligibility. He was listed at 6'6, 245 lbs...

Re: Indoor Facility News

One big difference between Detroit and Illinois is that cities can go bankrupt, while states cannot. I guess Illinois is in a race with some other states to test that law. Conservative SC probably means no bankruptcy for Illinois. And meantime, other courts have ruled the pension benefit as enshrine...

Has a season ever gone this fast the other way like this one has? Good grief. I thought this team was going to be a very tough playoff out.
Has me thinking of 2016. We destroyed Valpo and beat Northwestern, then proceeded to lose 4 straight.

Re: Indiana St.

I'm 100% speculating here ... but I'm thinking Robinson has been playing banged up for last few weeks. He just doesn't hit the hole and explode or punish runners like he was first half of season. If true, I'm guessing upper body like ribs or shoulder, or something. He is not the same runner. He pul...
