Re: FCS Win over FBS Tracker

The MVC has to go on the offensive - recruit at least 5-6 existing FBS teams and make the move up Tulsa Memphis Arkansas State Ball State Northern Illinois Western KY We'd have 16 in hoops (East and West or North and South) - 10 teams for football. WIU, Indy State, Drake could all play in Pioneer w...

Re: Birds Picked 5th in Preseason Poll

I'd take us 3rd because lines win football games and I think our OLine will be one of the best in FCS. Why is NDSU not in the Big 12 yet? Anyone? Possible partial answer: For the time being, it seems members of the Big 12 have discovered they like splitting post-season appearance payouts 10 ways in...

Re: Could Adding an Engineering Program help Redbird Basketball?

Establishing a marketable major like engineering will enhance the viability of an ISU education and could attract more students. A question will be which, or how many, of the various engineering disciplines might be offered. Realistic planning should recognize the type of academic programs that are...

Re: Jay Bilas Tweet

What really doesn't make sense is the idea that mid-major coaches would avoid such games out of fear of adding two or three more losses to their record. Considering how everyone knows the only way to get an at-large berth out of the selection committee these days, short of having a record of somethi...

Re: MVC Article on Selection Process and Scheduling

The "big boys" don't want the selection process to be changed; they have worked too hard for too long to structure it to their advantage. It has been said before by others that the NCAA office is unlikely to do anything to significantly address the issue for fear the power conferences will somehow t...

Re: Coach is at it again!

Bilas is banking on the assumption that a fair number of the viewers of his segments are semi-casual fans who will take the babblings of a former ACC player as being "expert" and beyond debate. Nice to see a Bone Scholar take him behind the woodshed.

Re: Rumors starting already

Observation: Because of the Selection Committee's obsession with mediocre teams from P5 conferences, it is possible (even likely) that a Final Four team would not have been in the tournament field if they had lost in the championship game of its conference tournament on March 4th. Lunardi pointed o...

And to think, if Loyola had lost the MVC tournament title game, they would probably be in the NIT right now thanks to not having enough "quality wins."

Tennessee lost to yet another team from the Valley in the NCAA tournament. The Vols must feel they are jinxed every time the brackets come out and an MVC team is lined up across from them in the first or second round.

Re: Life on NCAA tourney bubble getting tougher for the little guys: 'The opportunity is disappearing'

Remember how "Power 5" types complained about how the MVC had "broken the code" to scheduling in such a way that brought up teams' RPIs more in line with those of the "major conference" teams? Soon after that the selection committee started using things such as "eye tests" and "top 50 wins" as new c...

Re: Bradley AD to NCAA selection com

Didn't the Valley finish something like eighth in terms of conference ranking at the end of the season? If so, it is interesting that the eighth best conference couldn't get its second best team in the NIT. The number of upsets in the lower ranked conference tournaments and the ever-spreading influe...

Re: NIT Hopes

There is another way to improve the odds of getting a spot in the NCAA tournament: Be invited to join a "Power 5" conference and finish seventh or eighth by going only 2-7 against the teams that finish ahead of you and 7-2 against the teams that finish beneath you in the conference. That way you'll ...

Re: NCAA corruption

So when is the investigation of collusion among the "Power 5" conferences and its members to exclude non-Power 5 programs from the NCAA tournament in terms of both scheduling and selection criteria? They should have about 25 years of data points to help chart a trend line for that case.

Re: At Northern Iowa 1/24

A former ISU head football coach once said about the previous ISU head football coach that while it is one thing to build a good team, it is another thing completely to build a good program. (Ironically enough, the coach who said that turned what seemed to be a good program (at least in terms of win...
