One more week to the opening of Fall camp?

My guess is that camp opens next Monday, July 30. Can anyone confirm? In any case, we need to get back to talking football. Big questions for the Fall for me at least: Who will win the QB job? When we last brought in a transfer QB to challenge a returning starter, the transfer Tre Roberson won the j...

I appreciate the allowance for seat cushions. Some places no longer permit carrying those in.

Re: Street and Smith and Athlon

Pardon my ignorance, but IF we only end up with 6 D1 wins, but one of them is against CSU, would that be enough to get us in? Didn't that happen the year we beat Northwestern??? Six D1 wins meets the requirement. Of course at that point your whole body of work for the season is stacked up against t...

Re: Street and Smith and Athlon

So... Eastern Washington, Idaho, Sacramento State, Samford and Western Carolina are facing the same situation as we are - they're all playoff contenders who are one countable game short. Except those programs don’t have to go thru the MVFC. Yes to this ... their path to 8 wins (with a non D-I game)...

http://www.fcs.football/cfb/story.asp?i=20180709105030096844604 Illinois State - In the rugged Missouri Valley Football Conference, the Redbirds likely need success against Eastern Illinois if not Colorado State as well because the season opener is against NAIA member St. Xavier (Ill.). Re: Elijah Smoot committed....

Fortunately Bethard is an OC genius and Kolbe is capable of going to a higher level. Admittedly, a threat about Smoot is a weird place to add this, but I ran across this in an article about NDSU's Ethan Stick a few weeks ago. Haven't been able to confirm the list at nfldraftscout.com. "The website ...

Re: 2018 Preseason Press

Not so "Crazy" thought! CSU lost a lot to graduation. Here are CSU'S games leading up to ours, Colorado, Arkansas and Florida. They could easily take us for granted after that gauntlet. And that last one is in Tallahasee! They playing at Florida or Florida State? And don't forget UHawaii. Our game ...

Re: Horton

Coach Spack seems to be confident with the linebackers, but of course Horton was an impact player. Apparently it was a series of not doing things the Redbird way - no one event.

Lots of moving parts with players...different people at different stages with different issues. And there are different plans sometimes. Consider Himmelman, he didn't arrive the fall after high school, but waited until spring because that was the plan. In a transfer situation, it may be better for a...

Re: Mr. BUFFALOMEAT

Lets not get too far ahead of ourselves. Mr. Buffalomeat enrolled in the Spring and attended spring practice. He is expected to be a redshirt this fall. That means he'll be in uniform for home games, but he won't be part of the travel squad. In past years he would not play all season. But the NCAA h...

Six QBs on the roster this fall barring changes. Gotta imagine there may be a position change or transfer in there somewhere. Brady Davis almost never played at Memphis. Memphis lists 2015 as his freshman year and as a redshirt, but they also give him one game appearance. I don't really understand t...

WIU Enrollment Woes

From the Peoria Journal Star... "As for WIU itself, the enrollment news is not good. Enrollment is expected to decrease about 14 percent for the 2018-19 academic year, according to an update the WIU board of trustees received last week. Total enrollment is expected to be just above 8,000, compared w...

Seems to have missed his senior year of HS to injury. Redshirted first year at Iowa, then injured again last season. That's quite a bit of missed time to practice/play and improve. Wasn't going to get playing time at Iowa, so we'll see how he develops here. Should have three years to play for the Bi...

Re: SIU athletics $26 million in the hole

UIC boosts their numbers by holding back a portion of seats in their statewide mission programs (think M.D.) for students who are UIC undergrads. This was a smart, calculated move on their part to boost their undergrad enrollment. Risky, because the strongest schools generally don't do this, yet UIC...

Interesting too, the "saved" Reggie at mid-field appears gone too. Wonder what that was all about?
Don't know, but my guess is that they're just installing base strips first, and will come back to cut and sew details as desired.

From running the ball to rushing the passer. James Graham had an unusual Redbird career. On the 2014 Runner-up team, he was the third leading rusher for the Birds, only trailing Coprich and Roberson. By 2016 he's no longer running the ball, but rushing the passer on passing plays. His senior year he...
