Re: Spring game on Saturday....what will you be looking for the most?

Of course he isn't on the current staff so his opinion is just an opinion. But he has a lot more experience evaluating football players than most observers, and WJBC color commentator Ted Schmitz thinks that Hatfield might be a bit ahead of the other two QBs for the backup job.

Re: Spring practice right around the corner....who is pumped?!!

Recent updates from Spring practice per the Pantagraph ... Running game looked good at yesterday's scrimmage. Smith, Robinson and Kielbasa continuing to perform. Birch has lost 10 pounds but gained strength. At 6-3, coaches are talking about using him more in the passing game, including lining up in...

I expect the bears to match.

Great deal by the agent allows Meredith a chance for a big payday at 27 if he performs and a nice guarantee incase he gets hurt.
That's a life changing contract for most people. Well done.

Perhaps this will provide a platform to make the occasional game from the local Fox Sports channels available to a wider audience, or at least provide the mechanism for that when "broadcast" rights are renewed.

Adding Engineering will help balance the ISU community. ISU currently has more female than male students. Re: Spring practice right around the corner....who is pumped?!!

I have seen it before when a coach makes an unexpected roster move and the surprise catches the opponent off guard and for one game or one half it works. How about Kolbe being the surprise? UNI game in 2015. Roberson couldn't throw the ball so Kolbe was the passer. Took UNI awhile to adjust. And th...

Re: Spring practice right around the corner....who is pumped?!!

Spring practice is here and look who is where 99, very interesting.....screw the NCAA if we select you, you are in tourney and start looking at the the new big man on campus, FOOTBALL!! More specifically, #99 Ridgeway moved from OLine to nose tackle. In today's Pantagraph, Spack describes the D as ...

Re: Loyola

I can't remember a game with so many open paths to layups as Nevada gave Loyola. Nevada's help defense just wasn't there, as they seemed to commit to denying passes and three point shots. Problem is Loyola still got a few threes, but made tons of layups from penetration.

Looks like there are two coaching vancancies in the Valley. Evansville won’t bring Marty back. I thought it was kind of cool that one of Marty's assistant coaches at Evansville was former ISU assistant Doug Novsek. Simmons and Novsek were high school teammates (not sure how much farther back they m...

Re: Offseason Wish List

I wouldn't be surprised if Coach Beathard re-opens the QB competition. The potential QBs are Jake Kolbe; Conor Joyce; Malachi Broadnax; Tristan Smith; Trenton Hatfield; and possibly the Minnesota QB potential transfer; others???. It could be interesting again. I think there may be some chan...

What ever happened to that juco receiver out of California
He is on the roster, but not much info yet. I imagine he'll participate in spring practice and have a photo taken in the fall with the new players.

Pantagraph reported 2 NLI signed recently. A 6'2" receiver needing more work academically and a 5'11" multisport receiver that will greyshirt. The taller player is EJ Smoot 6'1 180 WR Beggs HS, OK, who verballed recently. This means he signed and the coaches are commenting. Notable comment: he has ...

Illinois State is not a foreign name in NFL circles any longer and that helps his cause also. I don't recall ever having this many Birds in the NFL as in these past few seasons. That really shows the elevation in talent across the roster. We've had one or two players at a time, even some who were s...

I am a little frustrated by some of the talking heads' analysis of this situation. "These kids need to be paid". They need to get more to avoid situation like this". I know I am an old fogey purist. But I say if a kid wants to go the NBA and they want him right out of college, fine by me. Maybe the...

Needs improvement: Red Zone Offense

One of the more frustrating parts of the 2017 Birds was their struggles to actually score touchdowns once they moved into the red zone. In conference games only, we were last in the league in Red Zone success at 68% We rank 7th of 10 in Red Zone touchdown percentage - which I think better shows your...

1000000% this. I think they can make a really big difference in game atmosphere, if they are given the chance.
Given a chance? Are they being limited?
