Re: One Scholarship Left

“Pocketing “ a scholarship is a bit is a stretch phrase in a technical sense as you either use it or lose it as the schollie does not carry over. I know we tend to think that a high school player offered and accepting a scholarship is a four year propisition as coaches want to honor the commitment. ...

Re: "Indoor Facility ... #1 priority" ... AD Larry Lyons

Hasn't ISU dropped in the USNWR rankings because they included more schools in the National U grouping? While we may not be competing with UofI for many students, I do think we are competing with schools like Indiana and Iowa for students, instate kids that don't get into UofI are then deciding bet...

Re: Ricky Torres

Walk ons play just as hard at practice and spend just as much time at basketball as a scholarship player. Their job is to selflessly make everyone else better. Why would you not throw a kid a bone if you have one available. It's not like the student body"s going to get a refund for an unused schola...

Re: One Scholarship Left

There are various mentions throughout some threads about what to do with the final scholarship. Figured it would be easier to have it all in one place. https://www.pantagraph.com/sports/college/illinois-state/ex-wichita-state-point-guard-to-join-isu-men-s/article_1f0b5997-1def-55a8-9778-8ef741e07df...

Re: ISU over NIU listed as a possible FCS over FBS upset

Agree NIU will be the favored team and ISU will have to play well to win. We are definitely capable of winning but could get a beat down if we do not play well. Will be interesting to see how Robinson performs. I wish Markel Smith had kept his attitude in check last season and was suiting up for thi...

Re: So how are we feeling now?

Agree with Warriors comments about addition by subtraction being the first big step towards improvement. The fact that we have virtually no returning guards (i do not consider Chastain a true guard) from last year's team is a big step forward, the fact that we no longer have MY and his ability to di...

Do the incoming freshmen get to go to Italy?
I know a P5 program had all returning as well as new roster players for the upcoming season make the trip so I would assume that is common practice.

Re: Ricky Torres

I would think the new PWO would get the schollie for 1 year if it is sitting open. The Gassman opted out. Why give an open schollie to a Pwo unless they have truly earned or deserve it. Wisconsin had an open schollie available last year and it was available for Micah potter to transfer in from Ohio...

Re: ISU over NIU listed as a possible FCS over FBS upset

I took a look at the NIU boards, which I almost never do with other team boards. I did not see anything that I would not have expected. If they are on the Huskie message boards they are the core of the fan base most likely and bleed for their team, just like those of us here. I can respect that and...

Re: "Indoor Facility ... #1 priority" ... AD Larry Lyons

Fourth I misunderstood your prior post and agree with what you are saying. Will say again ISU’s opening game against NIU is great opening game even though on the road. It builds interest in the program’s upcoming season and creates buzz early in the season which can help attendance throughout the se...

The fact of the matter is that our US News’ ranking has slipped. A few years ago, I think we were 150...now in the 175 range. Say what you want about Fiske and US News’ ranking’s but perception typically becomes reality. Perhaps we need a special department to focus on creating a better “relationsh...

Re: Antonio Reeves to ISU

If Reeves can defend he will play a lot as a Frosh. He will instantly be one of the best shooters on the team. And he’s big enough to score around the rim. Really quick release and soft touch 8 feet in. Gotta get in the weight room and work on lateral quickness. He reminds me of Tyler Brown. Maybe ...

Re: Antonio Reeves to ISU

Great signing for ISU. I know SIU clearly thought for sometime he was going there before ISU. This is a good individual player signing and a good program optic signing too. A lot of people feel this kid could be a sleeper. He is smooth and has good finesse. If he gets stronger and continues to devel...

I would hope the communication is good. The offices are in the same building. I'm sure Elgin and Patty V's offices aren't far apart.
This is my point all you get is some token boost in communication

Re: Early MVC Preseason Preview

There is zero chance football and basketball go back to difference conferences. They are different now or were you being factious? The Valley runs both conferences. For all intensive purposes, they are the same. I'm talking about being in the Sun Belt for one sport and the MVC for others. I just do...

Yaklich interviewing with Texas to be on Shaka's staff. Doesn't seem Yak wants to wait around to see if the new coach wants to retain him. If he goes to Texas, I could see us getting a game with them because of the Yak connection, plus Shaka did home and homes with Muller at VCU. I'd bet Shaka woul...

Re: OT: SIU Arena Naming Rights

Is there a restriction against having the naming rights on two separate arenas? Assembly Hall, and Redbird Arena might be Assembly Hall (State Farm Center) and Redbird Arena (Start Farm Arena) Some companies have multiple arenas named but what would be the benefit of two arenas located so close.? A...
