Re: Let's talk WR group ...

Does this group have the speed to make a secondary respect a deep threat? Patterson might have the most speed but at the scrimmage Saturday he dropped a pass from Kolbe that him in the hands on a crossing route. Schnell will be a threat short and long. He can also catch it short and run long. After...

Re: QB Competition update

Kolbe was not demoted against SDSU. He was held out due to injury. I don't recall an injury to Kolbe. I recall it being a strategic coaching decision for the SDSU game. Here is an article from the Pantagraph after that game. Coach Spack is quoted speaking of Broadnax: "We went into the game thinkin...

This (position) Blows

I had a post about players that just plain blow up. I'm not talking about tranfers or players that were redshirted or players that suffered significant injuries. I define a blow up player as a player that was here and eligible but he wasn't an impact player and he isn't receiving any preseason recog...

Re: QB Competition update

I would also add that the coaches saw a lot more than the 3 scrimmages where passing stats were published.

Re: QB Competition update

If you're any kind of coach you just know. It's called the eye test. Who fits the offense better? Who makes the DE hold his water on read option, opening it up for your gift of running backs? Who makes the corners play off and the safety line up deeper? Who can hit the home run? Who gives you a bet...

Re: QB Competition update

Gotta give Timmy credit for this one. I didn't want to believe it. He said back on Aug 9 - "The coaches already know who the better QB is" The way the scrimmage was set up today with #1 offense with Davis vs. #2 defense it was clear that the table was being set for Davis. Maybe Beathard knew who he ...

A recent check of the roster on GoRedbirds shows local D-lineman Austin Galindo missing. Is this just an omission? It wouldn't be a total surprise if he's gone. He hadn't cracked the 2-deep front which goes like this- Ist team E - Swaine N - Ridgeway T - Podkulski J - Harris 2nd team E - McKnight N ...

Re: Early workouts

I don't know if they are officially "open" to the public. I just so happened to be walking by and watched next to the construction area. I'm guessing they wouldn't be too thrilled if people started coming and sitting in the stadium seats or Horton side to watch. They way I see it, if you stay outsi...

Re: QB Competition update

The QB race is still too close to call and it looks like the competition will continue into the first game. The case for Davis reads like this. His arm is livelier and he's a better scrambler. He's more apt to try to make a big play and when it goes well you're convinced that you are seeing a truly ...

Re: Position changes

Hadden didn't have the hands to play WR. Hatfield will be a good special teams player and utility back for us this season and then a QB for another school.

Re: LB Group .. warning, objects in mirror may be larger than ....

This Jason Harris change is probably not much of a change, he was Jack before, and pretty much will play the same as an OLB. Asked to drop back on occasion. Re: Early workouts

As a guy who had very high hopes for SO Kolbe, he did really struggle a lot as JR Kolbe ... I have been vocal and put more blame on OC Dicken than Kolbe .. We've differed on this issue. You hold Dicken responsible for Kolbe's Jr. season drop off ('17) and I've pointed to the youthful offensive line...

Re: LB Group .. warning, objects in mirror may be larger than ....

There's talent at LB'er but I'm not sure everybody is in the best place. Clark and Kelly-Martin might be our two best LB'ers but they play the same position (SAM). I'll hold further comments until after the next Saturday's scrimmage.

Re: Early workouts

We're getting a little carried away here. Davis has good mobility but he's never been a prolific runner so we shouldn't expect a lot of rushing yards. There could be exceptions. I remember Matt Brown tucking and running 50 yards right up the middle of the field because the defense didn't expect him ...

Re: Early workouts

With the new redshirt rule (freshmen can play in up to four games and still redshirt this season) I would expect to see a number of freshmen appearing all over the field. It'll be interesting to see how the coaches use this. Perhaps they'll play a lot of them if we are blowing out a team. That's a ...

Per Coach Spack at the press conference, Ridgeway is 328.
I claimed him while still listed at 285 so you get the extra 43lbs.

Jude Okolo is greyshirting according to Randy. Very Good. I like the film and frame on him. He reminds me of former Redbird Larry Fitzpatrick.

No word on Fuchs and that's not good.

the Biggest surprise in MVFC will be our offense . I've been touting it on AGS. Some of them like Robinson a lot, but don't realize he is still developing ... as for rest of offense, they think I'm drinking too much koolaid. I like the offense a lot but I still have two unresolved issues and unfort...
